Program year 2010/2011:
Speaking Politics: Communication, Responsibility and Opportunities in the Media Society
Today, politics is unthinkable without the media. Politicians seem to be increasingly dependent on media coverage. Journalists therefore play an important role in political communication. However, this role is changing. The established media are beginning to feel the pressure of growing competition. Internet allows amateur journalists to reach a larger audience via blogs and social networks. These alternative media create new opportunities for civil society. Who is responsible for political agenda-setting today? How does this omnipresent mediatization affect political issues? And who profits from these new opportunities?
In three workshops, the participants will have the opportunity to meet leading experts from the fields of media, politics, marketing and civil society. In exclusive site visits, they will gain additional insight into the workings of political communication. The last workshop will be a special network meeting between current CGYPP participants and those of previous years (Alumni).

Society in Change: Innovation and Development for a better Future?
“Innovation“ and “Development“ have always been crucial for social and economic processes in Europe. In times of crisis of the Western system they have become omnipresent magic formula. They promise simple and better solutions as well as unlimited possibilities of growth. But is innovation as powerful as people hope it might be? Is every claimed innovation really new? And how can we know if its long-term consequences are as good as we hope?

Mobility and Labor in the Post-Industrial Era
During the program year the effects of the liberalized labor-market and the changes in economic structure during the last two decades were traced. Which local concepts are developed to encounter the continuous shrinkage of labor? How can economic potentials be used, when traditional industries perish? Which role do cultural differences play on the labor markets? Is the accepted differentiation between center and periphery still valid today?
